About “FDL”
FDL stands for `fleur-de-lis.’ The fleur-de-lis is a stylized design of an iris flower which is used both decoratively and symbolically. It is literally translated in French to mean “flower of the lilly.” It may be ornamental or it may be at one and the same time political, dynastic, artistic, emblematic and symbolic especially in heraldry. While it has appeared on countless European coats of arms and flags over the centuries, the fleur-de-lis is particularly associated with the French monarchy. It is an enduring symbol of France, but, being regarded most notably as the emblem of monarchy, was not adopted by any of the French republics. As a religious symbol, the fleur-de-lis may represent the Holy Trinity and has also been associated with the Virgin Mary as well. 1
I incorporated the Fleur-De-Lis as a tribute to New Orleans—one of my favorite cities, and the place where I spent my residency training in dermatology.
