Summer vacation is the time to de-stress, hit the beach, and relax.  But it’s also the time of year where the sun is the strongest.  This means more intense UV rays, increasing your risk of skin damage.   UV rays can cause wrinkles and even play a role in skin cancer.  But good news! There are multiple steps you can take to prevent this skin cell damage.

To help ensure your skin protection, our own 2018 Arlington Top Doctor Dr. Herbert recommends staying in the shade, especially during midday hours.  Remember that the sun’s UV rays are strongest from 10am-4pm.  Try to also wear clothes that cover your arms and legs, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and wear protective sunglasses.  This will minimize your skin’s contact with these harmful rays.

Most importantly, don’t forget that sunscreen! Dr. Herbert recommends wearing sun protection factor (SPF) ___ or higher during your summer fun.  FDL Dermatology’s Sheer Physical Water Proof Sunscreen (SPF 50+) is a perfect option for those long beach days, giving strong skin coverage and water-proof protection.   Apply to all exposed areas of the body. And when Labor Day hits and fall begins, make sure to continue applying sunscreen, as the sun’s UV rays infiltrate Earth’s atmosphere year round.

Remember these important tips, and you and your skin will be ready to take on summer!
